SCM has a team of engineers working with Level III NDT specialists to develop application specific NDT solutions.

Some of these are custom developments with a very small areas of application while others have become an addition to the standard products sold by SCM.

Using laser metrology, SCM has developed a system to measure the profiles of sheave wheels for the mining industry. This gives the user an extremely quick non-contact repeatable scan of the exact profile of the wheel. With an overlay function the user is able to compare the scan to historical scan data to be able to trend wear rates and thus aid predictive maintenance and overall machine health monitoring. With the automatic report writing facility, the customer can have the report in their inbox before the technician leaves site.

With an overlay function the user is able to compare the scan to historical scan data to be able to trend wear rates and thus aid predictive maintenance and overall machine health monitoring.

This extremely versatile tool allows the user to scan an encoded surface with the same level of ease and speed that he would if it were a non-encoded scan.

Since it uses wires, the setup is a matter of seconds, and the motion of the scan is not constrained. With this tool, pressure vessels and large tanks are scanned significantly faster while data is captured for off-site analysis.

SCM has developed technology to be able to install permanent monitoring systems on site. The system allows the user to log into a control room and monitor all the parameters as required. This system has various alarms for thresholds, power failures as well as a time based report generation function. This is all done via a 3G/GPRS link which means that the system can be monitored continuously from anywhere in the world.
